Our guide to summer jobs in the UK
If you’re hoping to get a summer job this year, it’s best to start your search as soon as possible to beat the rush. Here are some roles to consider!
- Music festivals – An awesome place to work! Roles include stewards, catering staff, bar workers, security and cleaners. If you’re a music fan, the perks of the job include free tickets, food and the chance to see your favourite celebs!
- Summer camps – This is the perfect job for people who love having fun outdoors. As you will be working with children and therefore have to be very responsible, it will provide valuable CV material! Lots of schools run summer play schemes, so there may well be one near you.
- Hotels – There’s always summer seasonal work up for grabs in hotels, especially in Britain’s coastal towns and resorts. Roles include waiting on tables, bar staff, cleaners and room changing assistants, entertainment staff such as bingo callers, and leisure staff for hotel gyms and swimming pools. There are usually various shifts available, for example, breakfast or dinner waiters and evening bar workers.
- Retail – Most people in the UK love to shop and retail is our largest private sector employer, so it’s well worth exploring the vacancies. You may even land yourself a tasty staff discount and the transferable skills you’ll learn – including customer service and cash handling – will stand you in good stead for future careers.
- Teach English as a Foreign Language – You don’t have to go abroad to teach English as a foreign language! There are dozens of vacancies at international language schools across the country. If you are interested in this type of work, it’s advisable to take a TEFL course which is great for your CV anyway and will help you find summer work.
Remember – the key to finding a great summer job is persistence. Good luck!
